M50 – Shanghai
50 Moganshan Road, Putuo District, Shanghai
Closest metro: Jiangning Road (Line 13)The M50 art district is a must-do for anyone visiting Shanghai. Art lovers could easily spend a whole day wandering around the area and visiting all the galleries. Plenty of street art, creative exhibits, and delicious cafes to keep you intrigued and happy here.

Closest metro: Wangjing South (Line 14 East)The big brother to M50, 798 Art District has the same feel of M50 in a totally different style. Originally a cluster of state-run factories fallen into disuse, 798 has transformed the area into a contemporary art-lover’s paradise stretching out over a huge area. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area as well, so one could spend a day or even more in this iconic art district.

West Bund Exhibition – Lane 3398, Longteng Avenue, Xuhui District, Shanghai
Closest Metro: Middle Longhua Road (Lines 7, 12)More a mixed gallery of contemporary art and classics, the Long Museum boasts an incredible collection and attracts renowned exhibitions all year round. The museum is also behind an extensive education program aimed at supporting young artists in China.
Red Gate Gallery – Beijing
Dongbianmen Watchtower, Dongcheng, Beijing
Closest metro: Beijing Railway Station (Line 2)
Red Gate, situated on levels 1 and 4 of an old city watchtower, is a gallery that features work from both established Chinese artists and upcoming young talent. Like the Long Museum, Red Gate is also dedicated to supporting local artists in China through their residency program.
Today Art Museum – Beijing
32 Baiziwan Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing
Closest metro: Guomao (Lines 1, 10) or Shuangjing (Line 10)
This museum is another staple for Chinese contemporary art. Situated right in downtown Beijing’s Central Business District, the museum is known for not only its excellent exhibitions, but also the contemporary interior architecture as well.
