With temperatures reaching their peak in Beijing this summer, it’s important to see and experience the city while avoiding the heat. We’ve outlined some cool ways for you to enjoy your summer in Beijing.
Beijing Summer Activities:
Get Outside Early
To avoid the sweltering temperatures, it’s best to get an early start on your day. A great way to spend some time outside is to wake up early and explore the culinary scene within Beijing’s backstreets. There is a lot of local food to try such as tofu pudding with many savory toppings, traditional jarred yogurt, and the crunchy Chinese-style crepe called jianbing. It’s pretty easy to gain an appreciation for the locals who make these tasty, handmade treats!
See a Show
During midday, you definitely want to be out of the scorching sun. Cultural experiences can be found indoors, especially if you choose to view one of Beijing’s amazing shows. Performances range from song, dance, acrobatics, plays, opera, and even martial arts. We suggest everyone goes to see Chun Yi: The Legend of Kung-Fu, a multi-award winning artistic production.
Escape the City
Getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city is enough to make for a relaxing day, especially if you can spend some time on the water. Not far outside of the Beijing lies Longqing Gorge. Many say the Longqing Gorge is like a smallerversion of the Li River in Guilin, but possibly even more beautiful. You can take a boat ride into the deep and secluded valleys, viewing the cliffs, peaks, stone features, and clear, mirror-like water.
Explore at Night
Many places in Beijing are thought to be haunted, and you can check them out yourself! The Beijing metro is said to be inhabited by many ghosts, and there is also a haunted house in Beijing you can explore! You can head out at night and explore Beijing’s ghost scene, participate in an exorcism, see a ghost wedding, and discover Beijing’s haunting history – if you’re brave enough!
