"Tiger Leaping Gorge" is a channel of the famous Yangtze River that takes us to a beautiful trek along it and overlooking the huge cliffs of the "Jade Dragon mountain". The depth of the river below to the top of the mountain is 3,760 meters and is one of the world's deepest channels. The channel is the first bend of the Yangtze River, and is a huge bend that keeps the river which is the "main artery of China", within the country unlike the other parallel rivers, the Mekong and the Selween that flee to other countries.
drive from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge trek (over night: local Guesthouse at the trek). We will start our day with a morning drive for two and half hours to the town of Qiaotou, located at an altitude of 1850 meters above sea level. The town marks the starting point of our trek. The way we take overlooks the huge cliffs of Jade Dragon mountain which rises to a height of 5,500 meters. Today we will walk 12 km, 800 m up and 400 m down to one of the local minority Naxi villages that is located at an altitude of 2,250 meters above sea level ,where we will sleep in a local guesthouse.
We continue our trek early in the morning, starting by walking on the planar trail that slowly goes down through the villages we will pass waterfalls that fall down to the gorge. Today we will walk around 11 km and descend about 200 meters. Around noon we will finish our walk and will drive for 15 minutes to the deepest point of the gorge to a view of the spectacular raging river. After that we will drive back to Lijiang, where our trip ends. Possible extra activities: - After finishing the trek you can go to Shangri-la, the famous Tibetan city that lies between the snowy mountains on the borders of the Tibetan plateau and is named after the legendary paradise.
